Broken Bow Lake is the heart of the Hochatown area: about 14,000 acres of clear, deep water tucked into the Ouachita Mountains, with roughly 180 miles of pine-covered shoreline and quiet coves to explore. Built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the Mountain Fork River, it is known for some of the clearest water in Oklahoma.
Visitors come for boating, swimming, kayaking, scuba diving and some of the best bass and crappie fishing in the state, with public boat ramps and marina access around the lake. Beavers Bend State Park sits on its southern shore, and the lower Mountain Fork River below the dam is famous for year-round trout fishing. Photo: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
