Fort Towson Historic Site is an Oklahoma Historical Society landmark in Fort Towson that interprets one of the state’s most important early military posts. The site’s visitor center offers exhibits on the fort’s history, including its construction in 1824 and its later roles in the Mexican-American War and the Civil War.

At the site, the story reaches beyond the fort itself into the surrounding landscape of Doaksville, where annual Candlelight Tours trace the streets of the historic town nearby. The experience pairs guided exploration with the atmosphere of a preserved frontier place, where the past feels close at hand in the walkways, historic ground, and the WPA wall that marks the approach into Doaksville.
