How Do I Fix My Airbnb Tax Rate to Hochatown's Lodging Tax?

Short answer: you can't change the taxes Airbnb collects automatically from your listing settings. If your cabin is inside Hochatown town limits but Airbnb is charging Broken Bow's tax, contact Airbnb host support and the Town of Hochatown at 580-494-7390 so the listing gets assigned to the right town.

Airbnb lodging tax

The short answer

You can't fix it yourself in the listing settings. When Airbnb collects a tax automatically, it shows as a locked line in your listing's tax section, and Airbnb decides which town gets it. If your cabin is inside Hochatown town limits but the booking shows Broken Bow's tax, ask Airbnb host support to correct the tax location for that listing, and tell the Town of Hochatown too.

This is a known problem. Hochatown has no ZIP code of its own, and many cabins inside the town use Broken Bow 74728 addresses. In July 2026 the town sued Airbnb, the City of Broken Bow and the Oklahoma Tax Commission in McCurtain County District Court. The town says Airbnb assigned many Hochatown rentals to Broken Bow in its tax system, so the lodging tax went to Broken Bow instead.

Hochatown's town lodging tax is 4%, and it has applied to all lodging inside the town limits since May 1, 2023. Call the Town of Hochatown at 580-494-7390 or email Info@Hochatown.gov to confirm your cabin is inside town limits and ask what the town needs from you.

  • Hochatown lodging tax: 4% inside town limits, since May 1, 2023
  • Town of Hochatown: 580-494-7390, Info@Hochatown.gov, 101 Rock Oak Ln, Mon to Fri 9 to 5
  • Airbnb's automatic taxes: Locked in your listing; Airbnb host support has to change them
  • Lawsuit: Filed July 2026 in McCurtain County District Court

🧾 What to do

Steps to get your listing taxed as Hochatown

1. Confirm your cabin is inside Hochatown town limits. The town's website has town maps, or you can call the town at 580-494-7390. A Broken Bow mailing address does not mean the cabin is in Broken Bow city limits.

2. Open a host support case with Airbnb. Say the listing is inside the Town of Hochatown, McCurtain County, Oklahoma, and is being charged and reported under Broken Bow. Ask them to reassign the tax jurisdiction. Give the listing number, the physical address and a recent booking that shows the wrong tax.

3. Tell the Town of Hochatown which listing it is and what Airbnb said. Email Info@Hochatown.gov or call 580-494-7390, Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM.

4. Keep copies of your booking tax lines and Airbnb's replies in case the town or the Oklahoma Tax Commission asks for them.

📮 Why it happens

Why Airbnb mixes up Hochatown and Broken Bow

Hochatown became a town in 2022, but it doesn't have its own ZIP code or post office. Cabins there usually use Broken Bow 74728 addresses. The town's lawsuit says Airbnb relies on ZIP codes to decide where local taxes go, so many Hochatown rentals were sent to Broken Bow.

Airbnb collects the taxes and works through the Oklahoma Tax Commission to send them to the right town. The town has asked the court to hold the disputed tax money in a separate account while the case goes on. A bill in Congress to give Hochatown its own ZIP code has not come up for a vote.

💲 The taxes

What taxes a Hochatown cabin booking has

Town of Hochatown lodging tax: 4% on lodging inside the town limits, in effect since May 1, 2023.

Oklahoma state sales tax: 4.5% of the listing price including cleaning fees, collected by Airbnb.

Local sales tax and state-administered local lodging tax: Airbnb also collects these, and the rates depend on the city and county the listing is assigned to. That assignment is what puts the right or wrong town on your booking.

Hochatown short-term rentals also need a town license. The town works with Granicus for short-term rental licensing and tax filing, so ask the town if you need to file anything yourself on top of what Airbnb collects.
