🧭 Beavers Bend visitor guide

Oklahoma's pine-forest playground

Beavers Bend State Park covers 3,482 acres of pine forest along the Mountain Fork River and the shore of Broken Bow Lake, about 10½ miles north of Broken Bow on Highway 259A. It became a state park in 1937, and in 2017 it took in the old Hochatown State Park, so you may still see both names on signs.

It's one of the busiest parks in Oklahoma, with more than 2.2 million visitors in 2021. People come to fish for trout, float and paddle the river, hike the hills, ride the little train and stay in the park's lodge, cabins and campgrounds. The shops and restaurants of Hochatown are just outside the gate.

This guide covers where to stay, where to fish, what to do with kids, and the local businesses in our directory that work in and around the park. Tap any name for hours, photos and directions.

🏕️ Stay in the park

Lodge, cabins, campsites and yurts

3 places

You can sleep right in the park. Beavers Bend Lodge sits on the shore of Broken Bow Lake with a great room and a stone fireplace. There are also 47 cabins with kitchenettes, 393 campsites and more than 50 tent sites spread over eight camping areas, two group camps, and two yurts by the river named Happy Hearth and Bear Tracks.

Park cabins and riverside campsites go fast on summer weekends and in the fall, so book early through the state park reservation system. Staying in park lodging also gets you a parking pass.

🎣 Trout country

Trout fishing on the Lower Mountain Fork

4 places

Below the Broken Bow Lake dam, the Lower Mountain Fork River runs cold through the park, and it's stocked with trout all year. There are two catch-and-release trophy areas for anglers who want a shot at a bigger fish.

New to fly fishing? A local fly shop and guides can set you up with gear, flies and a lesson. Most anglers need an Oklahoma fishing license, and the trout areas have their own rules, so check with your guide or the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation before you go.

🥾 Trails & nature

Hiking, the nature center and the Forest Heritage Center

1 place

The David L. Boren hiking trail system links a set of shorter trails through the hills, from easy one-mile loops to the five-mile Skyline Trail, so you can pick a walk that fits your group. The park also has a nature center with a year-round naturalist, and from about November through February it hosts eagle watches.

On a rainy day, the Forest Heritage Center tells the story of Oklahoma's forests with 14 large dioramas and historical displays.

🚂 Family fun

Train rides, horseback rides, golf and the Blob

3 places

Kids love the little train and the guided horseback rides that leave from the depot in the park. On hot days, the Mountain Fork Blob launches riders into the river, and life jackets are required. Grown-ups can play Cedar Creek Golf Course, an 18-hole course in the pines, and the park also has mini golf, tennis, volleyball and an amphitheater.

🚤 On the lake

Boating and swimming on Broken Bow Lake

3 places

The park wraps around part of Broken Bow Lake, with about 14,000 acres of clear water and 180 miles of shoreline. Rent a pontoon or a Sea-Doo at the marina, take a tiki boat tour, or try water skiing. The lake is clear and deep enough that scuba divers come here too.

🎰 Outside the gate

Choctaw Landing and a bite to eat

2 places

Choctaw Landing, the Choctaw Nation's casino resort on Highway 259A, opened in 2024 right by the park. Its Tuklo Grill serves breakfast through dinner. For more places to eat, see our Hochatown restaurants guide.
