Hooker's Fire-n-Ice: the self-serve stand that delivers

Hooker's Live Bait Shop Fire-n-Ice sits at 9114 N US Hwy 259 in Hochatown, on the same lot as the Old West Town mini golf. It's a pull-through circle drive with stacks of campfire wood you load yourself, open 24 hours, and you pay through a slot box hanging on the fence. There's covered and uncovered wood at different prices, plus live bait and $1 bags of ice.

Buying a lot, or want it brought to the cabin? The business offers pick-up or delivery. Ring the bell at the stand or call or text (580) 236-4784 and tell them where you're staying and how much you want. Campers at Beavers Bend and Hochatown cabin guests both use it, so it's a well-worn routine.

Hooker's isn't in our directory yet, so there's no card below.

The Southern Belle Concierge: firewood with the groceries

1 place

The Southern Belle Concierge is a Broken Bow couple's cabin concierge for people staying around Hochatown and Broken Bow. Firewood delivery is one of the services listed on their site, right alongside s'mores packages, grocery pickup and delivery, romance packages, welcome baskets and party setups.

They say texting 580-306-2961 works best; if you use the website form, check your spam or other inbox for the reply. Teachers, military and first responders get 10 percent off. Ask for current firewood pricing when you text, since it isn't posted on the main page.

If you're already having them stock the fridge or set up a birthday, adding a stack of firewood to the same drop-off is the simplest way to have the fire pit ready when you pull in.

🏡 Ask your host

Cabin companies that deliver a rick

1 place

Before you call anyone else, ask whoever you booked with. Broken Bow Cabin Lodging provides fireplace wood free at its cabins with indoor wood-burning fireplaces from about mid-October to mid-March, and for the outdoor fire pit it will deliver wood to your cabin and add it to your guest account: an eighth of a rick (2 by 2 feet) is $20, a quarter rick $35, a half rick $60 and a full rick (4 by 8 feet) $120. Purchased wood is yours to take home, but there are no refunds on what you don't burn.

Bravo Cabin Rentals guarantees up to 20 sticks of firewood per stay at the cabins it tags as firewood provided, and several individual rentals on the booking sites list firewood delivery as an add-on. The amount, the price and whether it covers the fire pit or only the indoor fireplace vary from one company to the next, so ask when you book.

A note on size: around here a rick is a stack 4 feet tall and 8 feet long of 16 to 18 inch split wood, roughly a third of a cord. A quarter rick is plenty for two or three evenings around a fire pit.

Bundles in Hochatown and Broken Bow

3 places

If you just need a couple of bundles tonight, the convenience stores along US-259 in Hochatown keep them out front in the cool months. In Broken Bow, Walmart at 501 S Park Dr (open 6 AM to 11 PM) and Broken Bow Ace Hardware at 204 N Broadway St (weekdays 7 to 5:30, Saturday 9 to 3) usually stock bundled firewood, fire starters and lighter fluid; call ahead on a busy weekend because they can sell out. Pruett's Food next door to Walmart has the marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers.

🔥 Safety

Before you light it

McCurtain County goes under burn bans often in dry stretches of late summer and fall, and a ban means no campfires, no bonfires and no wood in the fire pit, even at a private cabin. If a ban is on today, our burn ban page says so at the top. Your cabin host also knows the house rules; some cabins don't allow fires at all.

Buy your wood here instead of hauling it from home. Moving firewood long distances spreads tree pests, and the local stands and stores sell wood cut from this area. Keep water or a hose nearby, keep the fire small, and drown it before you head in for the night.
