🗺️ Where it is
Where Ouachita Mountains is
Say it WASH-i-tah. The name means "good hunting ground," and unlike many U.S. ranges, these ridges run east to west. About 133,000 acres of national forest sit in McCurtain County, most of it north of Broken Bow. Deer and wild turkey are common, bald eagles spend the winter, and a state wilderness area at the lake's north end protects old shortleaf pine forest.
